Summary:-

Realism is an art movement in which artists portray real and typical things and situations. The authentic, real and accurate depiction is the theme of this art.

The artists of this art style are completely different from the artists of Romanticism. In Realism, artists depict everyday subjects and situations.

Gustave Courbet was the leader of this art movement who was from France. Jean Désiré Gustave Courbet was a French painter. This art style is widely considered as the beginning of the pre-modern art movement.

Change during the Industrial and commercial revolution was the subject matter for this art style because many artists have shown the various stages of Industrial and commercial revolution.

Along with it, they used to depict mundane objects instead of any exaggerated emotional and exotic gesture; that’s why many historians say that it was against the depiction of Romanticism’s paintings.

Because its artists avoided the sordid and unpleasant aspect of life, the main focus was on real and typical contemporary people who were directly connected with this art.

The Realist movement as a reaction to History painting and Romanticism began during the 19th century. Realism is closely associated with Naturalism.

Paintings of Realism and naturalism resemble with each other to some extent. This art style emerged from the later phase of this art movement (Realism art movement).

That’s why, you see a resemblance in French and other European countries’ paintings because the French Realist movement had ideological and stylistic equivalents in all other countries (Western, Asian).
